Dangers of Taking God For Granted
Have you ever found yourself taking someone or something for granted? Were there consequences or did you get it corrected before it became a serious problem? In Luke 17:11-37, Jesus is traveling towards Jerusalem from the border between Galilee and Samaria. He will spend some time here and in Perea before heading to Jerusalem for the Passover and His pending crucifixion. As He enters a small village in His travels, He is approached by ten lepers who ask Him to heal them. There is a lesson in this encounter for us about the dangers of taking God for granted. Ten Healed, One Grateful - Luke 17:11-19 As Jesus is about to enter a village on the border between Samaria and Galilee, ten men who have...

As you go through the Scriptures you will quite often find where the Lord Jesus Christ himself went apart from the crowd, went into his own private place and prayed. We read Scriptures where he got up a great while before morning... We read scriptures where he prayed all night... We read Scriptures where he went up into a mountain place to pray alone. And we as human beings, whether we be in the Lord or not, are basically lazy creatures, ill disciplined... and sometimes it doesn't hurt for us to go back through the basics of Scripture again and realize just how important it is for us to have an effective prayer life. If it was important for Jesus Christ to pray, who could do all things, who is far...
Every year around the American calendar months of September and October, a Jewish Holiday is celebrated: Rosh Hashana. Rosh Hashana is a holiday listed in the Bible (Levitichus 23) and the importance of the holiday is to use it as a time to look inward. By looking in you acknowledge your good deeds and not so good deeds, ask for forgiveness and make a resolution to do better the coming year. This holiday also kick off a month long three high holiday combination (two of which have been labeled the High Holidays). Rosh Hashana is literally interpreted as "head of the year" but the looser translation is "new year". Interestingly enough the Jewish calendar month that Rosh Hashana falls in, is not the...

Sometimes people don't recognize a miracle even when they see one. Take a look at this story where Jesus heals the withered hand... Luke 6: 1-10 And it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first, that he went through the corn fields; and his disciples plucked the ears of corn, and did eat, rubbing them in their hands. And certain of the Pharisees said unto them, Why do ye that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath days. And Jesus answering them said, Have ye not read so much as this, what David did, when himself was an hungred, and they which were with him. How he went into the house of God, and did take and eat the shewbread, and gave also to them that were with him; which it is not...

What is a closet? Let's see what Webster dictionary has to say about the word closet. Closet is defined as a place of retreat or privacy. When we go into prayer or deep meditation Jesus has instructed us to retreat into the hidden place of our heart and mind to commune with the Father in privacy, and that he would reward us openly. In Judaism the tallit...
Mind Of God The New Age that we are now in, the Age of Aquarius is also the Age of the Mind. One of the gifts of the New Age is the Laws of Quantum Physics. These Laws tell us that there exists an infinite Ocean of Thinking Energy called the Quantum Ocean. In Reality, it is the Mind of the Creator God. Medical professionals and researchers, for self-serving reasons of their own, confine their thinking and investigations to asking questions such as, "Is our behavior caused by Nature or Nurture?" "How much is behavior or personality influencedby Nature and how much by Nurture?" There are serious problems associated with this kind of narrow thinking. Firstly, the assumption that behavior is caused by Nature and/or Nurture is entirely false. The essential cause of how a person behaves is to be found in the nature of his or her choices, not in the physical body or physical environment. The huge amounts of money, time, talent, and energy invested to determine whether the cause of behavior is Nature or...
History of Plastic Surgery
Plastic surgery deals with shaping and sculpting of the human body. Appropriately enough, the word "plastic" is derived from the Greek word "plastiko," which means "to mold." The initial reconstructive surgery, which was performed around 500 B.C., has been documented in the Indian Sanskrit texts, and the credit for the same goes to the great Sushruta. Byzantine physician Oribasius has also contributed in the evolution of plastic surgery through his work in the Synagogue Medicae, a medical encyclopedia. Plastic surgery was then revived in the 14th century and again later in the 18th century. During this time, anesthesia was introduced to the procedure, making it more common and less risky. John Roe...

The Trouble With Marketing Using Religion
"Telling the truth about a product demands a product that's worth telling the truth about. Sadly, so many products aren't. So many products don't do anything better. Or anything different. So many don't work quite right. Or don't last. Or simply don't matter. " - Doyle D. Bernbach What do companies do when their product or service isn't worth telling the truth about? When it doesn't do anything different or better - or just doesn't matter? A lot of the time, they rely on hype or outright untruths to try to sell their wares; some go with publicity stunts and other bells and whistles intended to blind consumers to the inadequacy of the product or service being sold - and others try to appeal to...
Good Conversations - How to Start and Sustain Them
We all talk, don't we? Therefore we all hold conversations. You may not think you're very good at them, but often you'll find yourself talking confidently in everyday situations without realizing it. The problem many people have is how to sustain a good conversation. Have you ever been at a wedding, a party, or some social gathering where you have thought, "what the? - How am I going to be able to talk for x hours - I'm running on empty already." Firstly, there are unwritten rules - 1. Make eye contact, 2. Keep a reasonable distance, 3. Stay away from religious topics, and maybe politics too, 4. try to connect with the person, by communicating in a similar style. It should be remembered that with...
The Early Christian Sect of Nazarenes As Ghost...
A Native American called Wovoka, but known better to history as Jack Wilson, was transported to heaven on January 1, 1889 during a solar eclipse, and in the presence of God he saw a vision of heaven, a beautiful place populated by large herds of wild game. He saw the ancestors in heaven spending their time happily in the Native Americans' favorite leisure activities. The term Ghost Dance arose from the spiritual renewal movement that Wovoka founded among the Native Americans in 1890. By the 1880s, the Native Americans had fallen into very hard times, confronted with the dire specter of hunger, disease and extinction of their cultures due to European immigrants into the New World. The new European...
Jewish Wedding Heritage, Customs and...
Jewish Tradition Ever wondered about the Chuppah, Ketuba, Jewish tradition does not considers the wedding ceremony and the ensuing marriage as a mere social arrangement or contractual agreement, but as a full commitment to "sanctification" or "dedication." The Hebrew word kiddushin, stems from the word kadosh meaning holy. It indicates that what is happening is a holy spiritual bonding and that as of the wedding ceremony and throughout their lives, the couple have an exclusive relationship, that involves complete dedication to each other. Engagement When a Jewish couple, gets engaged to be married, the families usually announce the occasion and the wedding date with an engagement party. There is...

The Plain Truth about Herbert W. Armstrong...
I think I said earlier that you sounded as if you may be of the WWCG. "A Higher Calling: Quest for the Kingdom of God" mentions how God called me into His Church during the days when Herbert W. Armstrong was courageously teaching the plain truth around the world, announcing the good news of the Wonderful World Tomorrow, the Kingdom of God that will soon be established with the return and reign of Christ. The present WWCG doesn't claim them as their own doctrine any more. Rather, God doesn't claim the WCG as His Church any more, as that apostate organization has returned to the traditional vomit of Babylon that many had escaped. It is now part of the Synagogue of Satan. God isn't associated with it in...
Supersize It - The Era of the Mega-Churches!
We live in an economic era where the "Bigger" the item - the "Better"! Fast food restaurant employees routinely ask "Do you want to Super-Size It?" as an enhancement to the already "large" items, such as fries and a soft drink, in a combo. Subsequently, this is a suitable marketing technique in such a competitive industry as the restaurant business, but who would have imagined this concept would be utilized in the church? Of course we use a more inconspicuous term, "Mega". I can hardly sit through a church service these days without hearing about a capital campaign or building fund project, such as Imagine, or Injoy, which outlines a structured monetary pledge or commitment that supersedes the...
Even though I am a full-time minister, I wouldn't allow anyone to call me "reverend", nor would I ever put that word in front of my own name as a "title". The word reverend is found only one time in the entire Bible (in Psalms 111:9), and it is an adjective describing the holy name of God! Since this word is set aside for God alone, why do you call your preacher reverend? Do you believe he is "on par" with God? Is your preacher's name as holy as God's name? Do you believe your preacher is somehow spiritually superior, or more "sinless" than other men? Furthermore, you should ask your preacher why he would want to be called reverend, when the word applies only to God's name. In my opinion, applying...
Religious Discrimination at the Workplace
Religious discrimination at the workplace is still one of the biggest challenges facing many countries around the world, especially here in Canada and in the USA. Even through religious discrimination has been an illegal factor, it still happens very frequently. The laws against religious discrimination give employers a really hard time. On one hand, you can't make employment decisions based on a person's religion. On the other, you might have to take an employee's religion into account when making certain workplace decisions. The law prohibits you from discriminating based on the fact of someone's religion beliefs (for example, that an employee is Catholic, Jewish, or Muslim). You can't refuse to...

Alisa Weilerstein is still in her 20s, but already she is hailed by New York Magazine as the "heiress apparent to Yo-Yo Ma." Washington, DC recently enjoyed her extraordinary talent at the Sixth & I Historic Synagogue accompanied by pianist Inon Barnatan. The program, one of their favorites, featured four works for cello ranging across two centuries They opened with Beethoven's Cello Sonata No. 5, written as he entered his final period. The third and last movement portends his use of fugues in his 9th symphony and his late string quartets. Next they played Benjamin Britten's Cello Sonata in C major composed in 1961. The only sonata he wrote, it was dedicated to Mstislav Rostropovich, as were his...
p>Rituals. When we think of them, we often think of church, temple, or synagogue. We think sacred and mysterious. However, rituals are really important parts of everyday living that sanctify the ordinary. Seemingly ordinary experiences take on a deeper, extraordinary meaning with a ritual. Why? Because rituals are intentional and by their very nature they symbolize important meaning. Saying goodbye to summer and welcoming a new school year can moving and significant when ritualized. Children and teens love the recognition of a transition. But with hectic schedules, it's often easy to lose track of the special nature of events in our lives. Take time to show you value the current transition. Here are...
Jerusalem - City in Israel
Jerusalem is the capital of the state of Israel. The city established 3000 years ago by King David as the capital of the Jewish nation. Consecrated by ancient history events and holy places, it is worshiped by Jews, Christians and Muslims from all round the world. Jerusalem is a modern city and Israel largest city. It is a city where the first century rubs shoulders with the twenty-first century, each jostling for legitimacy and space, and where picturesque "old" neighborhoods nestle against glistening office towers and high-rise apartments. But Jerusalem is much more than the sum of its landmarks, old and new. It is a city of people, as diverse as the four corner of the globe from whence they came...

Mineral Rights, Surface Ownership, Life Estates...
Nature of Ownership Interests in Land By law, property falls into two categories -- real or personal. Real property includes land and whatever is permanently attached to land, found on it either by nature, (water, trees, or minerals) or by man (buildings, fences, bridges, roads). Land is an inanimate thing which persons may, under the law, have different status to the land and the things attached to the land. ie. You can own the surface rights, but you sell the timber rights to farmer John for 25 years. The nature of the status of the land is fixed by law, and are distinguished as being either a freehold estate or a non-freehold estate. Freehold means ownership without limitations to duration. Non...
Starting a Tax Exempt Church
This article discusses the steps one would need to take in order to create a tax exempt Church. The process for creating a Church involves some paperwork which must be taken - first - at the state level and - second - at the federal level. Initially, to create a Church (or Synagogue or Mosque), the first step you would need to take is create a non profit entity at the state level. In other words, you will need to incorporate the Church by filing its organizing document, i.e., the articles of incorporation, with the state in which the Church will be physically located. Usually the agency that handles this task is the "Department of State", but some states designate another state agency for the...

The Seder Passover Festival
One of the most important ritual actions of the Passover festival is the Seder which takes place on the first night of the seven day. The Seder is a meal that Jewish families partake of in remembrance of the Exodus. Before the reforms of King Josiah in 620 .B.C.E the Passover feast was not all one meal. However, the holiday and eating of the sacrificial lamb took place inside of individual homes as partakers spread blood over their door posts before eating the meal. With the reforms of King Josiah all the male heads of homes were asked to bring an animal sacrifice to the temple in Jerusalem for the special occasion. The men would leave with some of the meat with the priest then return home to...
Imagine that you have walked in to a synagogue, right around the time that prayers are supposed to start. You see each man who walks into the synagogue carrying a bag. You see the men take out prayer shawls, place them upon themselves and then take out small leather boxes with straps attached to them, which the men then proceed to tie to their arms and place upon their heads. What you have just witnessed is the performance of one of the commandments from the Torah, that of putting on and wearing Tefillin. What are Tefillin? Tefillin, also known as phylacteries, are two leather boxes containing pieces of parchment with sections of the Torah on them that are attached to straps. The scene you witnessed...
A while back I was driving along the Jerusalem highway scanning the radio stations. On one frequency, a very intense dance beat was exploding out of the speakers. I was about to move the dial some more in search of a Jewish tune when the vocalist started in. Shock of shocks, he was a heavily Hassidic singer, complete with eastern European pronunciation. And what was he singing? "Kumee oy'ree ki va oy-reich.." from 16th century Rabbi Shlomo Alkavetz' classic Sabbath poem, L'cha Dodi. Before he had began his rendition I had been expecting something like "Oh baby, the way you move with me ..."! I had to ask the old question, "Is this good for the Jews?" And I had to give the old answer, "Does hair grow...

Let's start from the end. We will attempt to investigate the root of the Star of David, but first we want to say that today the Star of David is a symbol that stirs the emotions of many people. There are some who feel hatred, there are some who feel pride because the Star of David is their national symbol, and there are some people who want to keep it for themselves because they believe that the David Star is a source of power and protection. The David Star is a symbol, and there are different kinds of symbols: 1. "Object symbols," for example the heart, a symbol of love; 2. "Action symbols," such as raising a glass of wine and saying "cheers"; 3. "Verbal symbols," like the word "witch" to describe...

Apostolic Ministry and the Simple Church
Can we talk? There's an issue among Simple Church folks that I simply can NOT overlook any longer. It's the issue of the apostolic ministry in the Simple Church. What is an apostle? The word, literally, means "a sent one." That is to say, one has been sent by God to minister to others in an effort to advance The Kingdom. These people have a strong "fathering" spirit and are willing to be spent for the purpose of bringing the Church to maturity. In the Simple Church world, apostles (note the Lower Case letter "a" as this is a Job Description, NOT a title) have been limited to being called "Church Planters." I don't think it's serving the Body at all to attempt to limit that which God has established...

Kippah
A kippah or yarmulke (also called a kappel) is a thin, slightly-rounded skullcap traditionally worn at all times by Orthodox Jewish men, and sometimes by both men and women in Conservative and Reform communities during services and other religious rituals. Its use is associated with demonstrating respect and reverence for God.hover"> buttonThere are different proposed etymologies for the word yarmulke. According to most mainstream etymologists, it is a Yiddish word deriving from the Polish word jarmulka, meaning "cap", ultimately possibly of Turkish origin.[2] Others propose that it is derived from an Aramaic phrase, yarei malka, meaning "fear of the King [i.e. God],"[3] or from the Hebrew, ya'arei...
The Coming Of The Prophet Elijah
Prior to the arrival of Jesus Christ, the nation of Israel endured several hundred years of silence from the Lord. The Old Testament prophets who had in days past delivered regular messages from God Almighty suddenly went silent. But in the final verses of the Old Testament, God gave a promise to Israel. He promised to send the prophet Elijah before the great and dreadful day of the Lord. In the first century, many Jews lived in a state of constant alert, ready for the arrival of Elijah at a moment's notice. It was this very atmosphere of expectation into which John the Baptist and Jesus of Nazareth first appeared. Below is the prophecy which prompted great expectation of Elijah's coming. It appears...
Obama’s visit to Ghana should not come as a surprise to us. The grace that is upon the country of Ghana traces way back beyond the inauguration of the country’s president John Evans Atta Mills. There are presidents that have become presidents by ‘power and might’ – that is, they stop at nothing in their endeavours to win the election . And there are presidents that have become presidents through the special grace of God – that is, their assumption to office has God behind it for it’s accomplishment. It may be said that President John Evans Atta mills falls into the latter category. Whereas many may be wondering why Obama has chosen to visit this prospering nation, Ghana...
The Jewish Kippah Clearly Explained
A Jewish kippah is the skull cap worn by most Jewish people. As the small type hat that goes right on the top of the head and serves as a reminder that God is the authority above us. Pretty basically it is easy to be on your best behavior and live for God when at a synagogue or near a pastor, however on day-to-day life lots of people forget how to live for God, this is where the Jewish Kippah comes into play. Wearing a Kippah is like making the statement that you are a proud servant of God and attempts to live up to his expectations. Proud Jews will where the Kippah throughout the week both as a constant reminder and a statement to other people about the type of person that they are. According to...
